Time Warner Cable Debacle

by TAP 1 on November 21st, 2010

I’ve enjoyed Time Warner Road Runner Internet service for ten years and while they’ve had their outages, there has been nothing like what I’ve been experiencing lately. At random times over the last month, my Internet has gone out. After speaking with Time Warner customer service twice, we decided that the TW modem wasn’t the issue and that it must be the router. WEll, $80 later, the problem still persists—the problem wasn’t the router.

I just got off the phone with another customer service rep who maintained that there was nothing wrong with the Time Warner modem. When I asked if there was a change in the policy in the company, the rep sounded a little defensive, “There was no change in Time Warner policy,” he said. But when I read articles like this that explain TW’s metered bandwidth experiments, it makes me wonder if they don’t have some policy restricting the data sent over a certain time.

Whatever the case, Time Warner customer service is mum on the subject. It’s unclear what sort of secret policies Time Warner has that could be interfering with my service, but it is clear that if it continues, I will be switching to AT&T U-verse.
